Activities on the ile de Re

The island of Ré is among the most beautiful tourist destinations in France. It is renown for its several sandy beaches where it is possible to practice various leisure activities. Among these activities, there are surfing and all its variants: windsurfing, kitesurfing, bodysurfing, stand-up paddle and much more.

The geographical position of the island of Ré makes it an ideal place for the practice of such  nautical sports as surfing. Indeed, the southern coast of the island turns toward the west, which is suitable for receiving swells off the Atlantic. Surf spots of Ré are thus numerous and are playgrounds of enthusiasts of this discipline. Professionals surfers, from all over the world, do not fail to praise these sites after their stay on the island of Ré.

There are several surf schools, located in different municipalities of the island. They welcome thousands of tourists who search for the unforgettable feeling that one feels when riding waves on a board. Beginners, amateurs and professionals find themselves in a pleasant atmosphere, under the sun and in a totally idyllic setting.

There are eight surf spots on the island of Ré and they are mostly located on the south coast. The first is in Rivedoux-Plage, not far from the rescue station. In the town of Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, on the hamlet of La Noue, there is Les Grenettes, the most patronized spot on the whole island of Ré.

Along the coast to the north, we reach the spots of Gouillaud and La Pergola, respectively in Bois-Plage and La Couarde-sur-mer. Ars-en-Ré also has its spot on the tip of Grigon. To the north, on the famous Conche des Baleines, there are Diamond Head, Le Petit Bec and Lizay which are very popular places for surfing lovers.
